History Repeating Itself. Really.
Would someone be so kind as to explain to me how in the hell the USC Trojans, with a record of 6-1, are ranked #5 in the latest BCS standings? That is ahead of THREE teams who have a combined total of zero (0) losses this season, one of whom is actually IN a BCS conference.
Cincinnati won this week without their starting quarterback and best player in a blowout over a conference opponent.
Boise State flew halfway across the Pacific Ocean and beat the dogshit out of Hawaii, and plummeted 3 spots!
TCU faced a ranked opponent (who defeated the Sooners) on the road, in a state where they hate blacks and Christians alike, and won handily.
Meanwhile, the (from-here-on-out) Trojan Horses won a game that was close the whole way, by a touchdown, over an incredibly mediocre Oregon State team, AT HOME. Yet, under the shoddily-crafted wooden guise of things like strength of schedule and obligatory genuflection to the Carrollian Empire under fear of extermination, USC has snuck quietly into prime National Championship Game position like the Greeks into Troy. Following Iowa's luck inevitably running out, and the double standard provided by conference titles games, the one-loss SoCal's will be sitting pretty.
Listen BCS -- the life of a USC football player is pretty blessed to begin with, (what with all the free money, houses and whores) without you in the ivory towers turning a blind eye to the hushed schadenfreude and undue glory heaped upon the Trojan Horses very average (comparatively speaking) 2009 output. Wake the fuck up, and drop these assholes back to where they belong.
But, you won't. So to you BCS, I say...

Okay, unexpected, but I guess we'll take some more Deuce hating on college football quarterbacks that aren't from Boston College.
ReplyDeleteThrow in the "victory" over the Irish, and USC's last two wins have come over unranked teams by a total of 13 points.
ReplyDeleteWould you rather see TCU against Florida/Bama in the BCS Title game?
ReplyDeleteDo you think TCU or Boise St. is better than USC?
TCU...maybe. Boise, only if they played on blue turf.
ReplyDeleteIt's not a matter to me of who's "better", which is hard to determine if they don't meet head-to-head or have common opponents.
But do I think TCU/Boise/Nati DESERVES it more? So far, absolutely.
And perhaps that's the inherent flaw in the BCS. It provides the "most compelling" match-ups, instead of rewarding the teams that have earned it BY NOT FUCKING LOSING TO WASHINGTON.
ReplyDeleteRight. The issue is that they know that USC can compete with the likes of Florida/Bama/etc. BUT, they do NOT know if Boise/Cincy/TCU can compete with them. So, they play it safe.
ReplyDeleteThey also know that USC will bring 50,000 fans to the game, when that is not a guarantee for the other three.
You've missed the point.
ReplyDeleteIt shouldn't matter who YOU (the royal you) want to see play. And it shouldn't matter who "they" THINK can compete with the Ess-E-See speed. What should matter is which teams have earned the right to compete by beating everyone they've played. Including Washington.
We'll never know if Boise/Cincy/TCU can compete if they never have an opportunity to. And if I play for one of those schools...what's my motivation to work hard and win games if the ceiling is the Cotton Bowl?
"Keep winning fellas! We might get a trip to Dallas!"
I ain't missing shit. If CinciChristianState makes the title game, then what happens if they get stomped? How bad would the BCS look then?
ReplyDeletePeople would still be saying USC would have been a better match. MANY MORE PEOPLE than the others that would be saying the Horned Frogs would have put up a better fight, say if the Gators beat up the Trojans
No team necessarily earns a right to the national championship simply by winning all their games. And that has always been the case, even before the BCS. This isn't apples v. apples as much as you would like to hope/think it is.
The only way to obtain your version of the truth is to remove the human element... But since college football has RANKINGS, it ain't going anywhere.
So the BCS's job is cater to what the people want? This is fucking American Idol then, huh?
ReplyDeleteLet the "people" say what they want. But letting a one-loss (a terrible one at that) walk into a title game over 1 (or more) undefeated teams is contradictory to the very nature of sport.
A team doesn't earn the right to the national championship by doing absolutely everything right the entire season, winning every game...but they DO earn the right thanks to the perception of their program from years past? Or because they were more highly regarded before a single game was played?
Bullshit, man. The entire purpose/goal of the sport is to WIN. And if a team does that better than another, IN SPITE OF having less talented athletes, then why shouldn't they reap the benefits of it? Otherwise, why the fuck bother?
So, if Alabama loses to the Gators, then you think Cincy, TCU, and Boise St should be ranked higher than Alabama or have a better shot at the National title, even if they've had a cake ass schedule?
ReplyDeleteQuestion the second: If all 3 go undefeated, then who gets to play Florida in the National Title game?
In a system where everybody does not play everybody else. The only thing that can matter in a ranking system is wins/loses and strength of schedule.
ReplyDeleteStrength of Schedule is the most important issue here. It must determine rankings. How have these teams faired against highly ranked/rated/quality opponents.
Undefeated bosie, doesn't have the resume that a one loss bamma, or undefeated cinci has.
Schedule tougher games, NCAA force teams to play these guys.
Yes, they should be ranked above 'Bama. Because Bama had their shot at Florida, and lost. Tough titties. Why should they get a second chance before someone's first?
ReplyDeleteThe AL East doesn't get an extra playoff spot for being a tougher division than the AL Central, right? So why should Alabama, or USC, or anyone get an extra shot at a Title because they play "more competitive" teams? You can't punish the Twins for playing in a shit division, and you can't punish Boise or TCU for being a shit conference. That's out of their control.
Boise State bear the now-#10 Oregon Ducks for their only loss of the season, which is a better win than any USC has so far.
TCU won road games at Virgnia, and Clemson who just beat then-#10 Miami on the road.
Good enough for me.
and, esteemed colleague...how you gonna say you love an underdog, then defend probably the greatest overdog that exists?
ReplyDeleteYeah, but you didn't answer my question: Who gets the right to play for the National Championship if all three are undefeated?
ReplyDeleteEither way, a human decision is going to have to be made as to WHO is the BETTER team and it will have nothing to do with wins and losses. So, if it's inevitable, then why does it have to wait until the end of the year?
And come on, comparing pro baseball to college football? Get the car back on the road.
Answer? Playoff system.
ReplyDeleteConclusion?
I don't give a cowpie which of the 3 get to play for the National Championship if they're all undefeated.
As long as it ain't USC. I'm done with their undue accolades. DONE.
And abolish the Conference system, or make all conferences have a championship game (Ache-man).
ReplyDeleteAnd I do thank you for acknowledging the AL East's superiority.
So you feel that if Boise State played the same exact schedule that Alabama played this year, they would end the year with the same record or better?
ReplyDeleteIf not, they don't deserve to be in the title game.
With your logic boise could schedule three DIII teams and still be undefeated and therefore get a shot?
Maybe, maybe not. We don't know because Boise doesn't have that option since it has to play it's conference. But, I'd love to see them play Alabama and find out.
ReplyDeletehypothetically? But, that's not my logic in this instance, since Boise (nor TCU) hasn't scheduled any DIII schools; but have played legitimiate BCS conference teams, and won. If they did play 3 DIII schools, they'd be much farther down in the rankings, instead of conveniently right behind the TEAM THAT LOST TO WASHINGTON!
All this talk and Texas is going to beat Alablahblah in the title game, so don't worry about. My lone argument for the BoysChristianNati is they all play in conferences harder than the Pac Ten. The real debate is between the three, which team should go?? The Long Horns should have won it all last year.
ReplyDeleteK so i just read all of the comments. Two things: First strength of schedule is important but also misleading. Yes certain teams play a tougher schedule, but at the same time there are three common misconceptions about strength of schedule. Having a deep conference is immaterial. Id rather have to beat three to five californias than play a top five team. Second, small schools that are dangerous have a hard time convincing big time schools to play them, much less do a home and home, therefore its out of their hands to get big games scheduled. Third, strength of schedule does not consider when a team faced a team, clearly if certain teams are in a slump or playing better at a time of the year that matters...Point Number Two - Bowl games are a crap shoot, they are played eight weeks after the season ends and you never know how the different variables of the long layoff affect a team. My point is that until a playoff is designed, one that doesn't give USC the easiest road (thanks for letting the other conferences have a championshsip game while the Trojans go to strip clubs and movie premieres and then arrive at home for the Rose Bowl) this is all just conjecture. Oh and by the way didnt alabama almost beat florida and then lose to utah? Its all a crap shoot.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's when the whores come in...
ReplyDeleteWell you idiots spent 18 comments debated the national championship picture and never mentioned Texas...well done.
ReplyDeleteWhores runnin around with there little behinds shakin' for the men folk....
ReplyDelete20 Dollars to pay the rent? nah, I'll spend it on the whore instead..
Le Ginge, Esquire...master of verb tense.
ReplyDeleteTexas will drop the Big 12 Title game after Colt McCoy's girlfriend cheats on him with me and I take pictures to prove it.
