It Is Growing...

The list of idiots in Major League Baseball (that just so happen to be African American), that is.

Just prior to the start of the season, Torii Hunter made the outrageous, and ultimately unsupportable claim that MLB owners and GMs are specifically avoiding African American athletes because they can sign Latin American athletes for cheaper money.  He went further by claiming that Latin American players are "impostors".  Whatever the fuck that means...  He later went on to blame bloggers for making him look like the bad guy.  Sorry, Torii, but your dumbass did that on its own.

So, instead of GMs and owners actually trying to win ball games, their ultimate goal is to simply not sign African American players, and in doing so, save money.  Is that the idea being expressed here?  And, when they sign white ball players for big money?  How does the logic accommodate such transactions?

The problem is so widespread, that all-around champion of African American rights, Orlando Hudson felt the need to chime in earlier on Tuesday afternoon:
You see guys like Jermaine Dye without a job...  We both know what it is.  You'll get it right. You'll figure it out.  I'm not gonna say it because then I'll be in [trouble].
It's difficult to understand where O Dawg is coming from... And, I don't know, maybe there's a reason for that.  But again, what is the logic?  If a player can actually help your team, then why wouldn't a GM bring in that talent?  One possibility could be price.  Is the player asking for too much money?  This would support Torii Hunter's groundbreaking extrapolation of First World-Third World relations in the political economic realm.  Another possibility could be character issues.  Is the player a problem in the clubhouse?  Now, for a Jermaine Dye, this wouldn't seem to make any sense.  Jermaine Dye?  Who has ever had a problem with him?  Is Hudson just trying to say that a white GM simply doesn't want a black player on his team?  And what about Milton Bradley?  Not only is he the biggest problem child of all African American players in the MLB, but he is simply the biggest problem child of ALL players in the MLB.  So why then has he been signed by approximately 6 different (white) GMs in the last 7 years?  Have they just assumed that a guy named Milton Bradley has just gotta be white?  Maybe they thought they were signing the Monopoly guy?

Listen, I'm not for one second going to deny that racism exists.  In fact, it's everywhere.  Even on the tongues of Torii Hunter and Orlando Hudson.  Racism is a completely ignorant response to perceived differences in the world around us, and often times, gives rise to incredibly ugly language and actions.  We all have our ignorant beliefs, tendencies, and knee-jerk reactions.  But only the dumbest of us voice those ideas without truly thinking it through.  I'd like to thank Mr. Hunter and Mr. Hudson for showing us their true colors before I ever confused them with reasonable human beings ever again.
