Blogsturbation Monday

Choke Canada? Not quite. But the United States scoring that last minute goal was honestly the best thing that could have happened for any hockey fan, Canadian fanatics included. It fulfilled the building tension, added so much more excitement to a game that at times, like a slow dance, and ultimately re-paid Canada for that conservative trap they played over the final four minutes of the game.

No one can really be surprised by the outcome.  Canada and Russia were the superstars of this show and hardly anyone picked the US to even compete for a medal, let alone Gold.  But a silver is perfectly acceptable especially after such a workman-like performance not seen since the Donato-McInnis-Drury days of 1992 when the US squad competed for a Bronze against the Czechs... and the Slovaks, since they were still getting along at that time.

Privyet, Sochi!  Goodbye Vancouver.  And hello once again to the return of NHL hockey!  We missed you around these parts.  So much so that we took to appreciating just about any ice-bound sport, maybe with the exception of Ice Dancing... Because it's terrible.  But now we can get back to the goods.  And not just in hockey either.  With only 20 games left in the NBA season (and the NHL), an impending NFL draft, spring training baseball, and of course, some serious Sickness (more to come) on the horizon, it shouldn't be all that hard to live withouth Ski Cross for the next few... years.

1... 2... 3... You're out.  Purdue has an excuse, but come on Kentucky and Kansas.  How to let Duke squeeze their way into the one seed.  And with their win over a flounder Nova club, The Orange are suddenly the undisputed number one in the college ranks... At least until they lose to Louisville next weekend.   Should be an interesting two weeks to say the least.

Let's get to it.

  1. Don't look now...but Villanova just clanged another three-point attempt with 23 seconds on the shot clock, then fouled on the ensuing fast break.
