So, About that Tebow Ad

That was it?

Listen, if I'm gonna waste my time laying down diatribes on ideological advertisements, then I want my vehemence' worth.  Whatever your personal beliefs are with respect to Focus on the Family, there is no way that anyone could have had a serious problem with the ad itself.  Focus on the Family has every right to publicity and they paid for the slot.  There wasn't a heavy-handed moral overtone to the ad itself, either, which was actually quite nice.  Why that ad would ever cause you to visit the Focus on the Family website is beyond me, but the effectiveness of Super Bowl ads is not in our considerations at the moment...

Because, come on, the spot itself was pretty weak.  Mama Tebow is up there smile-speaking, and then Super Tebow tackles her?  What?  Who knew fundamentalism could be so much fun!  Otherwise, it fit the mold of a political ad (sincere, dramatic) and ended about as well as John Kerry's Democratic National Convention speech when he ran out of time and told everyone to get to his website for more information.

But whatever, it's done and we all got worked up about nothing, most notably all the women's groups that knee-jerked their collective feet into their gaping mouths.  Truth be told, this whole thing could have been way worse, but it was actually done with taste (minus the humor grab) and a measured tone.

Now, could you please pass the Doritos?

  1. Click the "Go On" and the clip will magically appear... Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but perhaps the sophomore slump is starting as soon as possible.

  2. The face Tebow makes at the end is purely idiotic. His smile looks like someone is rubbing chorizo chili shit across his upper lip during the filming, so he can't react how he really wants to.

Also, that's Tebow's first tackle of his career. Zing!

  3. Probably his last, too.

Unless you count that awful safety experiment that the Buffalo Bills run in the pre-season just before he's cut.

And can I get that Chorizo Chili Shit to go?

  4. Tebow tackling his mom glorifies violence against women.

The ad ten minutes later when that old bag get's tackled is a totally different story though, cause it wasn't by an anti abortion group.
