How Willie Shakes Out

We believe in two things and two things only here at FSD:

Sound advice & Accountability.

With that being said, we know this is your one-stop shop for all things fantasy sports.  Whether it is coming up with a name for your team, knowing to grab off the waiver wire, or planning your draft strategy, it is all here.  And prior to the start of the fantasy football season, we employed the services of high-borw fantasy laureate Willie Shakes in order to provide even better advice than we four (read: one) primates here at The Delay ever could.  So should Willie be employed in the future, or should we send him off to join the starving masses at the soup kitchen for the holidays?

Let us allow his prognostications to make the decision for us:

First, the running backs.  Willie stormed out of the gate offering cautions on oft-injured players such as Brandon Jacobs and Brian Westbrook, as well as over-worked players such as Michael Turner.  He also made some tremendous recommendations, suggesting to grab players such as Chris Johnson, Frank Gore, and even LeSean McCoy.

The problems emerged when he also told you to avoid players such as Thomas Jones, Stephen Jackson and Joseph Addai who have all been top 10 fantasy backs this season.  And how about some of those recommendations: Willie ParkerLdTJamal Lewis?!?  Ouch... Let's hope you all sought a second opinion.

Biggest miss: Ray Rice.  This is exactly why we pay Willie so handsomely, to find guys like this prior to game-time, and not because Willie just happens to be so damn handsome.

Mixed bag so far...

Next, the receivers.  After hitting two gimmes that are Andre Johnson and Larry Fitz, Willie went on to make two fantastic suggestions in (The Other) Steve Smith and potential Rookie of the Year, Percy Harvin.  Big points for Willie in this department.  He also told you to avoid Dwayne Bowe, advice that many Bowe-owners (or, Boweners) would now appreciate.

However, he then went on to tell you to also search out Roy Williams, Kevin Walter, and Devin Hester, as well as to avoid Brandon Marshall.  Sure, we can understand Brandon Marshall considering his past and present at draft time, but Roy Williams and Devin Hester?  Two duds from the previous season.  Willie also demonstrated his racial bias by offering Kevin Walter... Big points off for such despicable actions.

Big Miss: New Orleans Saints Receivers.  Sure, Colston has been quiet as of late, but Meachem has not been.  This offense was guaranteed to put up points, and you should have been alerted to their potential.

A few tough misses, but some tasty Harvin/Smith projections may have done the trick for Willie in this round.

And lastly, how about them quarterbacks?

Right off the bat, we see an issue: Jay Cutler.  Yikes... Dude has been putrid this season, even for a 7th-8th round pick.  Honest mistake though as it seems we were all a little bit convinced by the Bears offense pre-season.  But then Willie went ahead and did it: avoid P-Money and Tommy Touchdown?  The Colts and Patriots have had two the best offenses all season, and well, let's just hope you ignored these warnings... Even if they were reasonable.

In fact, the only good suggestion in this entire section is to avoid Matt Ryan, which was excellent.  But to specifically point out McNabb and Romo?  Fine, Romo has been decent this season, but McNabb has simply been mediocre, and anytime you are dealing with an Andy Reid offense, you need to beware.

And where was Aaron Rodgers on this list?  Sure the Packers has question marks, but not on offense.  Willie even mentioned Ryan Grant in the backs section, but neglected to mention THE number 1 QB in fantasyland?

BIGGEST miss: A Rodg... COME ON, MAN!

Let's just that there is a lot of red on this review.  We will talk it over for a day or two and have our decision in the coming weeks.

Oh, and Willie?  A fruitcake or some other kind sentiment wouldn't hurt.
